Young Umair is one of the new members of the GLH family. Having joined just over a month ago, he seems to still yearn for home. With his Father having passed away, Umair – who lived in Kaluthara with his Mother Grandmother, Uncle and little Sister – is now learning to settle down in his new environment and adjust himself.
Speaking only Tamil, he is keen to learn English, and focuses on the subject at school. He sees all the boys in the Home as friends, enjoying playing Badminton and ball games with them.
Umair says he likes to do his homework in his spare time, and says he is at the home to study, recite and become a big person.
Even as he allowed me to photograph him, and confided that he’d like to become a Computer Engineer, I could not help but feel for this little boy who obviously misses home.
