Having had just spoken to the older Brother (Asmath), Azam was a study in contrast. Much younger than his brother, he seemed to have been less affected by life’s curveballs. He retained the youthful exuberance expected of a little boy and was much more talkative. He is the one who told me that their youngest brother goes to Montessori, a fact that their older brother forgot to mention.
According to Azam, what he really likes is to study about Animals, but in school his favorite subject is Mathematics. He also only speaks in Sinhalese, he says, with a happy smile.
Osama nana and Rashmi nana are his friends. He says his favorite sport is Football, and then says in a smaller tone that they don’t actually have a football in the home, so they make do with a plastic ball.
Azam likes to read in his spare time, and likes life at the Home. He is taught English here, and the food is tasty.
“A Doctor”, was his answer on being asked about his ambition, before he rushed out to catch up with his mates.
