Literally the smallest kid in the house, Hassan is from Wellawaya and not yet completely settled at the Home, being new to the place. I took my time humoring him, realizing his reticence to speak to a stranger.
Hassan said to me that he lived with his Mother, Father and older Sister* at home, and that he came to the Home after his sister traveled overseas.
Speaking some Sinhala and clear Tamil, Hassan proclaimed an affinity to studying Islam at school.
Interestingly, Hassan said he has no friends at school and the Home, and that he spends his free time reading. He liked the home and said that he was in a good place.
His ambition is to become a Doctor.
[ It later transpired in my conversation with the GLH Mother, that Hassan’s explanation of his relatives at home was not entirely correct. The father and mother he referred to were actually his Grandparents, and the sister he referred to was in fact, his Mother.]
