Description
Umar is also from Kaluthara. He has been here barely a month, away from his Mother, maternal and paternal Grandmothers and Aunt. His siblings he says live in another town. I also learn that his Father passed away.
He seems to have settled down at school, with his favorite subjects being Mathematics and English. Speaking to me in Tamil he tells me he thinks of all the boys at the Home as friends, and plays Carom, Badminton and ‘tag and chase’ with them.
A little boy who wants to grow up to become a Doctor, Umar is very happy with the home itself. He says it is very good here, and that they have plenty of food. He grins and smiles openly for the camera, willing himself to enjoy it.
As he walked out of the room I wrote down on my notebook, “Smiling as wide as he does, Umar still walks around with some very raw nerves”.
